Max Cookson wins a barn burner at the virtual Five Flags Speedway on Saturday evening (4/26) for the Rowdy Energy Super Select Series presented by Speed51. Cookson took the lead from pole-sitter Layne Riggs on lap 6. Riggs got into trouble quickly spinning on lap 12, after making contact with Travis Braden and collecting Ryan Kuhn. Ty Majeski was battling Alex McCollum and Devon Morgan for third when he had some issues with net-code and spun on lap 49.
Finally getting a long green-flag run Cookson, McCollum, and Morgan broke away from the rest of the pack. With 29 to go McCollum put the bumper to Cookson and got underneath him to take the lead. Cookson recovered to second. McCollum, Cookson, and Morgan then made a train for the next 24 laps.
Getting impatient with 4 to go, Cookson, returned the favor to McCollum going into three and four, then going into one and two Morgan inched around Cookson for the lead. On the very next lap coming out of two, Cookson cut it underneath Morgan going down the backstretch, clearing him on the exit of turn four Cookson passed under the flag stand to make it 2 to go. On the last lap in a last-ditch effort, McCollum got to the bumper of Cookson going into four but it didn't matter as Cookson held on to win.
After the sixth round of the ten race series, Alex McCollum holds onto his points lead after starting 21st this evening.
