Sumner, Illinois (3/24/2022)... Sumner, Illinois, is home to about only 1,500 people. While Sumner may be small and quiet, a mile and a half south of town sits Red Hill Raceway, nearly ready to wreak havoc again.

Red Hill may be quiet this spring but this summer the high-banked 3/8ths mile will be roaring under new owner Jeremy Sneed. The Bluford, Illinois native also owns Wayne County Speedway, which sits just south of Wayne City, Illinois. Sneed had this to say of his newly owned facility, "This place used to be one of the best around; I am happy my crew and I can bring Red Hill back to life. We've got some cool plans in the works. The property is in much better condition than I could have imagined; we will have Red Hill in tip-top shape before the big boys come to town this summer. "

The eastern-Illinois facility has not held an event since 2005, and upgrades are needed. Improvements include track surface work, lighting, and safety upgrades to the fencing and guardrails. Sneed Motorsports, LLC. has less than three months to get Red Hill into racing condition because the Hell Tour stops by in June.

For the first time since 2000, the DIRTcar Summer Nationals will visit to Red Hill Raceway on Tuesday, June 28th, 2022, with Super Late Models and UMP Modifieds. Red Hill has hosted two Hell Tour races in its history; first in 1998 with Rick Aukland winning, and most recently in 2000 with Bobby Pierce taking home the checkered flag.

Outside of the DIRTcar Summer Nationals visiting, no other races are scheduled, but they will be soon. When it comes to weekly racing, Late Models and Modifieds will be on the ticket; other weekly classes will announced at another time.

Sneed also plans on hosting the Midwest Sprint Car Series (MSCS), and the Midwest Mini Sprint Association (MMSA) sometime in the late summer and fall. Open-wheel cars are no stranger to Red Hill Raceway. The USAC National Midgets raced at Red Hill once, in 1996, and the USAC National Sprint Cars visited there twice, in 1996 and 1998. Footage from the '98 USAC Sprint Car race can be viewed HERE.

More information about upcoming races at Red Hill Raceway will be released in the coming weeks, stay tuned!
