Mooresville, North Carolina (6/1/2022)... Eighteen-year-old Laci Ferno is set to make her National Midget debut with Mounce-Stout Motorsports during POWRi's Illinois Midget Week. Ferno will partake in two races on the Illinois Midget Week schedule, Fayette County Speedway on June 22nd and Lincoln Speedway on June 23rd.
Mixed emotions of nerves and excitement flood Ferno as she awaits her big day, "I am nervous and excited at the same time, it's going to be a lot different than a Micro Sprint at Millbridge Speedway, which is tight and small. I have only ever seen Midgets live at Millbridge, so it will be cool to see and drive one outside of there."
Millbridge Speedway, a 1/6th mile bullring outside Salisbury, North Carolina, is Laci's home track. Not only does Millbridge attract a strong group of local drivers, the track also sees the likes of NASCAR stars Kyle Larson and Christopher Bell race almost weekly.
Laci believes the competitiveness and close racing of Millbridge has prepared her well for what she is about to experience. "Millbridge is a great training ground, and I think it has trained me well for the Midget. Everything is so fast and tight, which has greatly improved my reflexes greatly."
Outside of being physically prepared, Ferno is getting mentally focused as well for her debut. "I have been going back and watching POWRi races at Fayette County and Lincoln as far back as 2010. It's interesting to see what lines have been fast, how other drivers pass, and what the track surface tends to do throughout the night."
Mounce/Stout co-owner Jay Mounce is ready for Laci get behind the wheel of the in the MPV Express - Lucas Oil - Mounce/Stout - Spike - SR-11 #15. "We are really looking forward to the opportunity to work with Laci, she has been working hard to acquire sponsorship to run some races. It will be fun getting her seat time, Illinois Midget Week has a good variety of tracks to get a feel for what the car can do."
In three weeks, Ferno and Mounce/Stout Motorsports are teaming up for a pair of POWRi Illinois Midget Week starts in the heart of the 'Prairie State'.
