Marion, Illinois (June 27,2020) The rain held off long enough on Saturday night to let Joe B Miller get his first PureMax Racing Oil HART Non-Wing Micro Series presented by EMi win at Southern Illinois Raceway.
Miller had planned on racing at Sweet Springs Motorsports Complex (MO) on Saturday night but, Sweet Springs ended up getting rained out, so he decided to make the trek to Southern Illinois Raceway. That decision proved to be a good one as he picked up his first HART win and $500 at SIR.
It was not an easy night though, Miller started last in his heat but gained seven positions to earn a redraw for a top-six starting spot in the feature. Miller drew the third starting spot putting him on the inside of row two to start the feature.
HART regular Alex Burgener led the field to the green flag and held the lead for a few laps before Aiden Purdue completed a slide job to take the lead.
Purdue seemed to on his way to his third HART feature win and first of the year until a car got into the wall in turn two. Purdue could not avoid the accident and clipped the car causing him to flip multiple times. The lead was then given to Miller since Purdue was not able to continue.
Miller faced several challenges from 2019 HART Series Champion Tyler Rust, but he prevailed in all. Joe B Miller of Millersville, Missouri went on to win his first-ever PureMax Racing Oil HART Non-Wing Micro Series presented by EMi feature race.
Rust finished second and the HART series's Friday night winner at Doe Run Raceway, Jake Cheatham, fills up the podium. Hometown kid of Brocton Williams went from 20th to 7th in the feature to earn himself the Vision 1 Composites Hard Charger award.
