Tanner Thorson won the sixth and final night of USAC Indiana Midget Week at Kokomo Speedway. Thorson just barely beat Kyle Larson at the line on Sunday night.
Tyler Courtney jumped out to an early lead and led the first 19 laps. On a restart with 11 to go Courtney hit a rut in turn one causing him to flip, knocking him out of the race. Chris Windom then took the top spot.
It appeared Windom had a great shot at the win until a caution with three to go bunched the leaders back up. On the restart Thorson got a good bite off of turn two and was able to get under Windom for the top spot. Thorson stayed down low with Windom while Larson was trying to get something going on the highside. Coming to the checkered Larson didn’t have enough around the top and Thorson edged him out by a half-car length.
Windom filled out the podium, while Clinton Boyles and Kyle Cummins round out the top 5. Jerry Coons Jr made a last minute substitution for Kevin Thomas Jr and drove from 20th to 8th to earn himself the Hard Charger award.
