Tanner Thorson slips by to Win night 1 of the Western World with the USAC Midgets

PC: USAC Media

San Tan Valley, AZ (11/13/2020)... Tanner Thorson slipped by on the inside of turns one and two on a Green-White-Checkered to take the win at Arizona Speedway. Thorson went from third to first on the restart to take the win over Logan Seavey and Tyler Courtney.

The night started with Logan Seavey breaking his own track record in Qualifying, laying down a 15.137 around the 1/3rd mile track. Heats produced solid racing and, the Semi-Feature did as well.

The A-Main was where the most action was though. Tanner Carrick and fifteen-year-old Brenham Crouch would lead the field to green. Neither would lead lap one as it would be Buddy Kofoid going top shelf early to take the lead coming out of turn two.

Kofoid would not get far without flip-flopping the lead with Tanner Thorson. Thorson got tight coming to lead lap 6, allowing Logan Seavey and Kofoid to be nose and nose at the line for the lead.

Seavey would take the lead and stretch it out to nearly two seconds at halfway while Kofoid and Seavey battle for second.

It appeared Seavey had the win sign, sealed, and delivered after taking the white flag. But Brenham Crouch said hold on one second, bringing out the caution as he sat on the exit of turn two.

On the restart, Kofoid threw a big slider on Seavey into turn one, but going unnoticed, skating around the bottom would be Tanner Thorson taking the lead out of turn two. No one had anything for Thorson as he would go on to win night one of the Western World Championships at Arizona Speedway with the USAC National Midgets.
