USAC and POWRi Midget Drivers Have To Be Hot-N-Ready Come Late May into June

USAC and POWRi midget drivers are busy come late May and mid-June as POWRi's Turnpike Challenge is May 28-31, POWRi also has Illinois Speed Week June 10-14 and USAC's Indiana Midget Week is June 16-21.


The 7th Annual Turnpike Challenge had originally been scheduled for April 30 through May 3, but it could not be run because of the COVID-19 pandemic. It happened to be rescheduled right at the beginning of the busy season for some of the nation's best midget drivers.


The Turnpike Challenge travels through Oklahoma where it starts at Creek County Speedway on Thursday the 28th, the Challenge then travels to I-44 Speedway for two nights of action, and its final stop is at Port City Raceway on Sunday, May 31.


After a nine-day break, POWRi Lucas Oil National Midgets pick back up in Illinois for the 9th annual Illinois Speed Week. Starting Wednesday, June 10 with some tight racing at Belle-Clair Speedway.


Then they head to Lincoln Speedway the 11th for round two. The halfway point of the five-day journey is at Jacksonville Speedway on the 12th. The POWRi Midget drivers then bulldoze into round four on the 13th, at the 1/5th mile oval of the Mighty Macon Speedway.

The last race of POWRis Illinois Speed Week is Sunday the 14th of June at Fayette County Speedway in Brownstown, Illinois.


The POWRi Outlaw Micros will follow the Midgets for both the Turnpike Challenge and Illinois Speed Week.


Take a day off then it is the USAC NOS Energy Drink Midgets turn for six days straight. 2020 will be the 15th year for USAC's Indiana Midget Week. Originally scheduled for June 2-7, IMW was moved to the 16-21 to accommodate with Indiana's reopening plan of the COVID-19 pandemic. Grandstands are limited to 50% capacity, tickets for IMW can be ordered on USAC.com


The opener of Indiana Midget Week is at Paragon Speedway on Tuesday, June 16th. It is Paragon's first year on the IMW trail and their first time since having a USAC sanctioned event since 1998.

After Paragon they series moves on and up to the quarter-mile of Gas City I-69 Speedway who has been on the IMW schedule since its first year in 2005. On Thursday, June 18th, Lincoln Park speedway is up. USAC's best then head to Bloomington Speedway to sling some red clay on the 19th. Lawrenceburg Speedway who hosted the first IMW race is up on Saturday, June 20th. The grand finale of Indiana Midget Week is at Kokomo Speedway on Sunday the 21st. Kokomo has hosted USAC Midgets since its inaugural season all the way back in 1956.


Last years winner of IMW was Logan Seavey. Sprint Cars will also be racing along side the midgets throughout the six nights. Check track schedules to make sure what classes will be joining the midgets.
